Stillness&Flow

Sharon Hughes,
Yoga and pilates teacher

Sharon Hughes teaches an eclectic style of hatha yoga that blends traditional Vinyasa, flowing postures in synch with the breath, with endurance work and soft restorative to create a balanced and meditative practice.

Trained in reformer, chair and mat exercises by STOTT PILATES®, one of the most respected brands in the mind-body field, Sharon has thorough knowledge of the physiology of core engagement. Sharon has also trained in pilates for post-rehabilitative clients.

Sharon's vinyasa "flow" yoga classes are grounded in the ancient tradition of yoga, but informed by modern anatomy to enable her to zone in on the best sequences for modern participants. Her classes move slowly to enable students to focus on form and make full use of muscles that respond to slower engagement.

She encourages students to fine tune the inner awareness following the body's guidance to unlock not only tension, but the deep, creative spirit that exists in every human being.

This approach gives students the tools to practice safely and effectively at their individual fitness level, without depleting the rich spiritual and emotional benefits of yoga.

Sharon is a Registered Yoga Teacher with the National Yoga Alliance at the 200 hour level. She trained for a year with a Registered Yoga Alliance school that put an emphasis on modifications for all body types and experience levels. She continues to study both modern and classical yoga.

After spending 11 years as a writer and editor at daily newspapers across the country, she took a sabbatical studying yoga and meditation at an ashram in Colorado. She returned home to Houston in April 2004 and now teaches yoga full time.
